Aberdare Rugby club paid tribute to David Young by naming their lounge area in his name. An impressive stain glass design was installed above the entrance door and a storyboard reflecting his achievements and his reflections and memories in connection with the club was unveiled.

Humphrey Evans, the Chairman of the club welcomed David and his family, speaking of the great contribution David and his family had made to the club. He wished him all the success in his new career as the coach of Cardiff RFC. David responded by thanking the club for the honour and told the audience how the club had been influential in his early development as a rugby player. His father Robert and uncle Peter had been part of the then Aberaman teams of the seventies.
