Match Report
|
In this eagerly awaiting league match pitting first against second it was the visiting team that opened the scoring with a well worked try form the Llandaff North scrumhalf who seen a gap up the blind side and darted over for a converted try. Aberdare 0 – Llandaff North 7.
Aberdare then settled down to put their stamp on the game, with some strong running from forwards and backs alike deep into the visitors half, but the well drilled North side worked tirelessly in defence to keep the home side out. Gavin 'Big Dog' Hek released the ball from the base of a ruck to feed Ben 'The Grub' Lewis at outside half, who seeing an opportunity broke to the blindside and feeding the strong running Matthew Smith finally broke the visitors defence and crossed for the home sides opening try, which Gavin 'Big Dog' Hek added the additional two points to level the scores. Aberdare 7 – Llandaff North 7.
Following an excellent passage of play that proved why both these teams occupied first and second place in the league, with some very hard tackling, it was Aberdare who were awarded a penalty that the maturing Gavin Hek converted with ease to give Aberdare the lead for the first time in the game. Aberdare 10 – Llandaff North 7.
James 'Catol The Ride' Daniels at fullback put in an excellent display in both attack and defence, showing no signs that his new arrival over Christmas was keeping him awake and upsetting his game.
Aberdare wee later given another penalty following and infringement at the base of the ruck and up stepped Big Dog Hek who was yet again able to add the additional three point to seal the victory for the home side and take a valuable four points from the game to reduce the gap on first place North to two point, with North taking a losing bonus point from this game.
