Match Report
Following last weeks excellent win against first place Llandaff North, Aberdare must have started this game as favourites and at the back of their minds event imagined claiming a bonus point. However the spirited Cil side was having none of it and made Aberdare work for every point and every inch of their Welfare Ground.
Aberdare opened the scoring after a passage of play that saw the forwards held up five metre’s short of the home try line. The ball was eventually passed out to Anthony Watts entering the line at pace who crashed over for the games opening score, which the ever dependable Charlie Roberts was unable to add the two extra point of the conversion.
Cil were then awarded two successful penalties in quick succession to bring the score to Cil 6 Aberdare 5.
Roberts then added a penalty following some offside play by the home side, for Aberdare to regain the lead, Cil 6 Aberdare 8.
Yet another penalty awards saw Cil and Roberts exchange successful kicks. Cil 9 Aberdare 11.
The next score saw the workhorse full back James Daniels cross the line in his own unique style at pace and with support, but yet again Roberts was unable to secure the additional points. Another penalty from Cil saw the first half come to a close at Cil 9 Aberdare 16.
The second half opened with yet another exchange of penalty kick this time between Gavin Hek and Cil, Cil 12 Aberdare 19.
With the visitor unable to turn pressure into points on no less than four separate occasions with passes going to ground when players were in space, Cil scored two very good breakaway tries which were unconverted to bring the game to an end and record a loss for Aberdare. Cil 22 Aberdare 19.
