Match Report

Game marred by indiscipline three yellows for Aberdare

Aberdare travelled to the seaside town of Llantwit Major after what can only be described as a disastrous performance against Cilfynydd.

In the opening seconds Llantwit were awarded a penalty that was sent wide of the right upright by their outside half.  Minutes later they were awarded another penalty only inches from their last o this occasion is sailed wide of the left upright.

For the next twenty five minutes of the first half both Aberdare and Llantwit played most of the game between the twenty-two's, with both side attacking and defending with equal determination.

The deadlock was broken when Matthew Smith intercepted a floated pass between the Llan outside half and his centre, and raced to the line unopposed, Gavin Hek added the two extra points to give the visitors the lead.  Llantwit Major 0 - Aberdare 7.

Aberdare's next try came after an impressive forward display, Aberdare were awarded a lineout on the home five metre line, Thomas hit his target of Brennan in the middle of the line, following a very good catch and drive saw the visitors stopped short of the line by the home defence, but with grit and determination all of the Aberdare forwards dug deep to maintain possession, it was the sniping Hek that collected the ball from the base and burst through for an unconverted try.  Llantwit Major 0 - Aberdare 12.

Just before half time Anthony 'The Bear' Watts was banished to the side line for a period of ten minutes following some indiscipline.

Aberdare started the second half with fourteen men and Watts was joined within minutes by Lee Davies after a rush of blood saw the prop also given a time-out be the Ref.

The rest of the second half was much the same as the first with play concentrated in the twenty-two's, Aber were awarded a penalty which Hek easily added the points.  Llantwit major 0 - Aberdare 15.

James Furey added another try to the visitors account when following another excellent passage of play between forward and backs linking well saw, Anthony Watts feeding Hek who selfishly gave Furey the scoring pass.  Llantwit Major 0 - Aberdare 20.

In the closing seconds Llan mounted a last gasp attack with saw fullback James Daniels as the last line of defence and stopping his man with his usual hard hitting tackle, the Ref deemed that Daniels had handled the ball on the floor and awarded him a yellow card for his trouble, Aberdare ended the second half as they started it with only fourteen men on the pitch.
