Match Report
Aberdare hosted this local derby against Abercwmboi in what could only be described as very mixed weather conditions, ranging from beautiful sunshine to blizzard conditions.
Within the first minute of play Aberdare's stand in leftwing Ceirion Griffiths got the ball just inside the visitors twenty-two, broke through the defence with his usual power and pace, chipped ahead, collected a favourable bounce and touched down for the opening score which centre Matthew Smith converted to give to home side a magnificent lead of 7-0.
This was the only score of a well fought first half, with both side being unable to add points from a series of missed penalty opportunities.
Abercwmboi's only score was added when replacement Ceri Pritchard was able to slot a penalty between the posts.
Aberdare responded with a very well taken try when following a passage of extreme pressure from all the forwards both rucking and mauling, Anthony Shellard was driven over for a try by all of the other forwards to extend Aberdare's lead to 12 - 3.
The next points were added by Aberdare's new skipper Anthony Watts, who in an almost mirror image of Shellard's try this time to the right of the visitors posts, Smith added to extra two points to took the home side lead to 19 - 3.
Aberdare's fourth and bonus point try came from very loose passing alone the Abercwmboi back line, when substitute James Furey intercepted a loose pass from the Abercwmboi centre to race some forty metres unopposed, Smith was again successful to with the final kick of the game to give the home side the victory at 26 - 3.
