Match Report

This game was a very important game both both side involved, success by the Cardiff side would see them close the point gap between third and second place and success for Aberdare would see them extend the point gap between second and third in the league.

Aberdare open the scoring when the home side were penalised for hand in the ruck and up stepped the dependable figure of Steven Roberts who slotted a well place kick through the uprights to stamp his presence on the game very early.  Cardiff HSOB the replied with their own penalty within five minutes to draw equal.  Cardiff HSOB 3 - Aberdare 3.

The next score saw Aberdare newly appointed Captain Anthony Watts to cross the whitewash following an excellent attack with backs and forwards linking well and some very good passages of support play usually seen in an International game rather than a Division Four encounter, Roberts stepped up to add the addition two point to extend the visitors lead to 03 - 10.

Roberts again added yet another penalty to further extend Aberdare's lead on the game to 03 - 13.  In the last seconds of the first half, Steven Roberts seeing that there was nothing else on attempted a drop goal by narrowly sailed wide of the left upright to close the first half.

The second half open with strong attacks and defence by both sides, as a result of one of these enterprising attacks Aberdare's Mark Jones was carried off the pitch with suspected ankle ligament damage, Steven Roberts started the second half with the same steady and accurate kicking and added another penalty following yet another Cardiff HSOB infringement.  Cardiff HSOB 3 - Aberdare 16.

Next on the score sheet was Cardiff when they slotted another two penalties in very quick succession to reduce Aberdare's lead to 9 - 16.

It was again Roberts's steady boot that added the last of Aberdare's point with another penalty, which extended the visitors lead to 9 - 19, in the closing minutes Cardiff HSOB's efforts were rewarded with another penalty to bring the scoring to an end and give the home side a consolation of a losing bonus point.

Aberdare next home game is on Saturday 12th May to Barry RFC kick-off 14.30
